The Office of the President prioritizes transformation, collaboration, diversity, equity, and innovation within the university to advance our students’ dreams and aspirations.
Through these strategic priorities, we establish an environment where faculty and staff become leaders in academia and students flourish in their studies and research. Altogether, our GU community functions as leaders for the deaf and hard of hearing communities worldwide.
People ask, what is Gallaudet’s secret sauce? How have you been so successful? How have you been able to achieve so many of the things you set out to do?
I have a few thoughts to share with you. I’m certain you can add to them. But firstly – it is our people. It is YOU. You are our secret sauce.
Secondly, you carry and embody Deaf Gain. As I often explain to people: I grew up Deaf. What that means is as Deaf people, every day, we have to adapt to situations that we encounter – we must analyze and strategize how to access communication.
We are constantly adapting and managing situations every day, all day – with our families, our communities, at the grocery store or the theater, in the workplace, in school, in our broader world, in our travels – we are always adapting. That is one of our greatest gains.
Deaf Gain gives us a creative edge. We are experts at problem-solving. We use our visual language, our visual way of being, to be successful every day.
