Our Linguistics programs focus heavily on research. Students have the opportunity to work with experienced faculty who have already made significant contributions to the linguistics field. Students performing research with faculty members can apply for Gallaudet Small Research Grant to help fund a research project.
Students in the Linguistics Minor program will take our Research Experience Class, where they learn all about research methods, the ethical implications of research, and past research in linguistics.
Master students receive further training and education in research methods with an emphasis on sign language linguistics. Students’ work may be further continued by admission to the Ph.D.program.
Doctoral students are required to conduct independent research spanning over two semesters. Additionally, doctoral students will perform further research to prepare their dissertation.
