Beginning Spring 2025, Student Health Services (SHS) will oversee the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). Please read below for detailed information and FAQ’s relating to health insurance.

If you are:
You are required to have health insurance!
You must either enroll in OR waive the student health insurance plan.
The Spring semester 2025 deadline to waive or enroll is January 24th, 2025.
If you already have your own health insurance through your family or yourself, please follow the steps below to submit a waiver to prove you already have health insurance.

I already have health insurance. Do I need student health insurance?
You will need to submit a waiver with a copy of your active health insurance for the current semester. Follow the instructions above to submit a waiver.
My waiver did not get accepted, I have Medicaid. Why was it not accepted?
Your Medicaid coverage is only eligible for the same state that it was activated in. The only Medicaid waivers we accept are from DC/MD/VA.
I have Medicare from my home state. Is this accepted?
Yes, Medicare is accepted. You will need to provide proof of coverage of both Plan A and Plan B. You can use your benefit letter from the Social Security Administration office to submit as proof. Please make sure the coverage dates state the current year.
How do I find my benefit letter?
Go online to this link and follow the steps to get your benefit vertification letter.
I have Kaiser Permanente. Is that accepted?
Yes, Kaiser Permanente is accepted regardless of the state. Please follow the instructions at the top of the website to submit your waiver.
Do I need Student Health insurance to be seen at SHS?
Any full or part time student can be seen at SHS, it does not matter if you have Student Health insurance or your own insurance.
How often do I need to enroll or waive the insurance plan?
Every semester.
Why am I charged even though I waived the Student Health Insurance Plan?
The premium (cost) is automatically applied to your student account. Once we accept your waiver, the charge will be removed.
