The Office of Student Success believes every student has what it takes to succeed and graduate from Gallaudet. Our team aims to welcome all new undergraduate students to the university and get them started on their academic and career journey, from their first day on campus until they graduate and enter the workforce. Each of our Academic & Career Success Advisors meets with new students prior to enrolling to learn about their goals and develop an academic and career plan to achieve their goals. Each Academic & Career Success Advisor also serves as a liaison to one of the five schools of study to partner with faculty advisors and program coordinators in providing continuous academic & career support to students until they graduate. Advisors team up with the Career Education and Student Success Coordinators to provide co-curricular programs and events focusing on academic and career success learning and engagement opportunities.
Student Success focuses on:
1. Welcoming and orienting students and families to the university
2. Supporting students in the onboarding process when they enroll and prior to the start of each semester
3. Providing students with academic and career guidance, including opportunities to explore their potential career interests, set academic and career goals aligned with their interests,, and develop a plan to achieve these goals while offering support for every step of the progress.
4. Supporting the faculty-led tutoring programs in each of the five schools of study
5. Monitoring student progress and providing interventions and referrals when students are struggling
6. Partnering with various campus programs in providing Academic and Career Success workshops and events related to academic success, financial literacy, use of technology and library resources, learning and study strategies, and many more!
7. Hire student leaders as Peer Academic & Career Advisors, a great opportunity for upper-level students to develop leadership and mentoring skills in supporting students academic and career journeys.
