Overview

Student Success works in partnership with key offices across campus to provide students with academic, career, and psycho-social support.

We welcome and orient families and undergraduate students to a variety of changes they can expect as they transition into campus life.

Student Success also offers ongoing Student Academic and Career Success workshops and events offered throughout the academic year, hosted by the Success Coaches and Peer Leaders.

Objectives

  • Welcome and orient families and undergraduate students to the requirements and expectations of university life.
  • Support students during their transition to the learning and teaching environment of Gallaudet University.
  • Provide ongoing academic and social support for students on their academic journey from enrollment to graduation.
  • Provide leadership skills and opportunities to upper-level students in a variety of peer leadership roles.

Departments

Academic Advising
Academic Advising supports undergraduate student transitioning into college by assisting in the academic, career, and personal goals of our students. Gallaudet's advisors carry out individual and group advising, academic planning meetings and interviews, course registration assistance, interest and personality tests, and computerized career guidance programs all to match students with their best path at Gallaudet and beyond.

Programs

JumpStart
JumpStart-ASL is an immersion program for deaf and hard of hearing emerging signers and an opportunity for undergraduates new to the deaf community and deaf culture to learn and develop ASL skills among peers with similar backgrounds
Orientation Programs
Orientation Programs include the Family Orientation Program and New Student Orientation.
Peer Mentorship
The Peer Mentorship program helps students acclimatize to Gallaudet socially, personally, and academically. New students are required to take the course GSR 101: First-Year Seminar (FYS), in which a peer mentor is assigned.
Tutorial Center
Our Tutorial Center provides free tutoring, coaching, and instructional support services for all undergraduate and graduate students at Gallaudet University online and on-campus. Students can expect an open and safe environment in the tutoring centers where there are qualified tutors spcializing in STAMP, English, and ASL.
