Testing Services

We offer standardized testing services on campus throughout the year for students and prospective students.

ACT This is an entrance exam used by many colleges and universities, including Gallaudet University. This standardized test is a multiple choice and pencil-and-paper test administered by trained staff on campus. Only current students or prospective students can take the ACT test on Gallaudet Campus.

Dates that ACT will be offered on campus during the 2024-2025 academic year. Please note the deadlines for registration:

The fee to take this test is $72.00. It is non-refundable except in cases of emergency. The essay portion is not offered as an option for test-takers on Gallaudet campus. The essay is also not required for admission to Gallaudet. Non-U.S. students are able to take the ACT test through the Internet (if they are not able to come to Gallaudet campus). For ACT, we provide four types of accommodations (see list below). ACT requires documentation of disability to justify accommodation requests. The quickest route would be to obtain a letter from a qualified professional, and here are the more specific guidelines for this type of letter. Please contact us to submit the letter.

All documentation must be received by our office no later than two weeks prior to the testing date. 

Types of accommodations provided by ACT & Gallaudet.

• Extended time (each section of the test must still be completed during one session, and the examinee may not return to a test after being dismissed from that session. We are able to offer up to 50% extended time for each session.)
• Marking responses in the test booklet
• Testing staff transferring responses to the answer document
• Food, drink or medication (for medical conditions)

Degrees of Reading Power (DRP) and Math College Readiness (MCR) are both offered as options in lieu of TOEFL. They are used by Gallaudet to determine internal placements, and neither test is required for admissions. For questions about DRP and MCR (about registration or accommodations), please contact us

The American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI) is a holistic language evaluation used to determine global ASL proficiency.  It may be required for admission to some programs. ASLPI is administered by the Bilingual Evaluation, Testing, and Assessment Center (BETA). All questions about ASLPI should be directed to ASLPI.

For tutoring to assist with test preparation for any of the tests above, undergraduate students may contact the Tutorial Center and graduate students may contact the Graduate Student Resource Center. 

Additional tests that may be required or optional for undergraduate, graduate and international admissions and are not currently offered on Gallaudet campus:

SAT (formerly known as Scholastic Aptitude/Assessment Test) and TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) are additional options for admission to Gallaudet University. Neither test is offered on campus. Test-takers must register directly with these vendors and have their test scores sent to Gallaudet University. 

The (PRAXIS) tests measure knowledge and skills required for educators. They are required for undergraduate and graduate students in the education program. At this time, no PRAXIS testing is offered on campus. 

The Miller Analogies Test (MAT) and Graduate Record Exam (GRE) are not required for graduate admissions but can be included with your graduate application as supplemental materials.
