Historical Sketch
The United States Deaf Skiers Association was established in March 1968 at Park City, Utah, when they had the first biennial National Ski Convention for the Deaf. They had 34 deaf skiers from all over the United States and some from Canada. In 1970, they had 125 skiers at Snowmass at Aspen, Colorado. An official representative for the United States Ski Association came there and had learned a lot about deaf skier’s ability to ski and their activities. As a result of this experience, the USSA has a USSA Ski Week program every year. In March 1972, they had 240 deaf skiers attend the third biennial convention in New Hampshire. They had the big National Ski Championships for the Deaf in the past conventions. The latter was one of the most thrilling events for everyone.
