At the Bilingual Evaluation, Testing, and Assessment Center (BETA Center) students, staff, and other community members will find access to reliable and valid language measurement testing to facilitate American Sign Language (ASL)/English bilingualism in their chosen fields. The BETA Center is a registered 509(a)(3) nonprofit organization.
Our center offers the following tests and evaluations to faculty, staff, and students at Gallaudet and the community at large.
Classroom Discourse Observation (CDO) is an assessment that identifies not only ASL discourse and language but also bilingual teaching approaches and the visual interactions between the faculty and students. Classroom Discourse Observation
TLS uses formative assessment that consists of feedback intended to foster development and improvement within teaching. This test is designed to provide participating faculty with a Formative Report that gives the emerging ASL faculty helpful feedback to improve their teaching skills and interactions with their students. The American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI) is a holistic language evaluation used to determine global ASL proficiency. It is utilized by agencies, schools, universities, programs, and employers. Register for ASLPI
