Historical Sketch

1930 John Mancino gave birth to the idea of organizing a bowling team to compete against neighboring New York State cities.
1934 After few years went by Thomas Hinchey,George Lewis, and John Mancino formed new Deaf Organization called International Deaf Bowling Association (I.D.B.A.) – Their first tournament was held in Syracuse with only 5 teams attended.
1936 The name has changed from I.D.B.A. to Great Lakes Deaf Bowling Association (G.L.D.B.A.).
1943-1945 No bowling tournaments due to war sports blackouts.
1948 Ladies were permitted to bowl.
1966 100 men team has reached with 108 entries.

Scope and Content
Great Lakes Deaf Bowling Association collection contains one box of bowling averages, minutes of the meetings, history of G.L.D.B.A., newspaper articles from different cities, and program books. The collection, which consists of approximately 400 papers, is dated from 1934-1982. The information is available to the public.
