Gallaudet University has canceled its 2024 baseball season due to a depleted roster. The Bison were hopeful to add enough players to make the season happen, but it became evident during preseason practices that the numbers were not there to safely field a team.

“This was a very difficult decision and one that was not made lightly. However, the safety, health, and well-being of our student-athletes is most important. It would not have been right to force a small number of players to play a competitive schedule this season,” said Athletic Director Warren Keller, ’10, in announcing the decision on January 30.

The decision to cancel the season before play begins provides United East Conference and non-conference opponents clarity on where the Gallaudet baseball program stands.

GU will now focus on supporting the current student-athletes that are a part of the baseball program and recruiting future Bison baseball student-athletes.

Gallaudet baseball was 7-31 in 2023, with a 1-20 United East Conference record. The team’s head coach is former Major League Baseball player Curtis Pride, who was entering his 15th season at the helm.
