The purpose of an Academic Contract is to assist students who are no longer in good academic standing. (A student is considered to be in good academic standing when he/she maintains a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or better.)
When students are placed on Academic Warning (AW) or Academic Probation (AP), they are required to meet with their academic/career advisor to design a contract that will help improve their grade point average for the following semester.
Academic Warning: A freshman student is placed on AW when the student’s cumulative GPA falls between 1.75 and 1.99 at the end of any semester or summer term. (Students are considered freshmen until they have earned at least 25 degree credits.)
Academic Probation: A student is placed on AP when the student’s cumulative GPA is below 2.0 at the end of the semester or summer term. A freshman is placed on AP if the cumulative GPA falls below 1.75 for the first time or if a freshman has been previously placed on AW and his/her cumulative GPA remains below 2.0 for the second time.
