The Winter Break Housing Application is closed.

 

All residence halls will be closed from December 20, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. to January 3, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. Only students who reside in apartments on campus will be allowed to stay on campus during the winter break. No campus services will be available during this period except the Department of Public Safety (DPS). 

If any student has limited housing options during winter break and needs additional support, continue to read below for information about applying for winter break housing. 

 

Winter Break Housing is available to you if:

  • Your family is currently staying in a shelter or transition housing;
  • You are an international student and your home country is experiencing political conflict or is otherwise unsafe;
  • You are classified as an ‘independent student’ by Gallaudet University’s Financial Aid Office and have no alternative housing options during the winter break (employment is not considered).;
  • Home is physically unsafe (you may be asked for documentation); and/or 
  • You have medical reasons (you may be asked for documentation).

 

To be eligible to apply for Winter Break Housing, students must:

  • Have an on-campus housing assignment for Fall 2024 and Spring 2025;
  • Have no other housing options for the winter break (our team may contact you for more information); and
  • Plan to stay on campus during the winter break for at least 10 of the 14 days (Do not apply if you have other housing options). 
  • Complete the Winter Break Housing Application by Monday, November 18, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. (noon) EST. You will be notified by Residence Life and Housing of your application status during the week of December 2 – 6, 2024. 

 

Do NOT complete the Winter Break Housing Application if the following circumstances apply to you:

  • If you need winter break housing because you cannot afford to travel home.
  • If you need winter break housing because you have an on-campus or off-campus local job.
  • If you are graduating in December 2024. Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate students who graduated and become alumni by winter break.
  • If you are currently living in an apartment on campus. Students living in apartments can stay on campus during winter break. 
  • If you are on the basketball team. We will work with your coaches to ensure your early arrival is set for you.
