Workday at Gallaudet
Suzy’s experience on the Workday Student...
Yes, so, my experience first started with the HR and Finance platform. That was the first Workday product we worked on. For that project, I was in charge of leading the testing experience. I’m currently also in charge of leading the testing for student experience, it’s the same role but they have been very different experiences. I noticed that with the HR and Finance rollout, my experience was good but it was a lot of work in a very short amount of time. We really had to condense things and go quickly with that work, and I think that can sometimes cause some issues. Parts of the user experience and the ability to accept change was hard for people. It was tough not just for the users who use the system, but it was tough for those who manage the data who had to learn a lot and it was hard for people.
It was a good experience and I learned a lot. I think I’m still learning, but what’s nice is that that experience is making the student project much more familiar. I know what to expect and am better prepared. We also have more time, we learned a lesson from the first rollout. We are more aligned, and it does take a little time.
There’s a learning curve for people, and some people are not used to the system or they are afraid to click around. I’m used to it, and I like to click around, explore, and break things! That’s my thing… I’m very well known in the IT department for being the queen of breaking things on purpose! Well, sometimes it’s by accident… but that’s how you learn! That’s what I encourage people to do.
