Coming Soon to College Hall

The National Deaf Life Museum at Gallaudet University (formerly Gallaudet University Museum) opened its first permanent exhibition, Gallaudet at 150 and Beyond, on April 8, 2014, during the 150th Anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln’s signing of the charter that established what would become Gallaudet University.

Over ten years later, the exhibition closed in Chapel Hall in preparation for the We, Native Deaf People, Are Still Here! exhibition. But Gallaudet at 150 and Beyond is not gone forever – instead, our most popular exhibition ever will be relocating to College Hall in the near future. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about Gallaudet University’s history while standing in the oldest space on campus, and for the first time will enjoy artifacts pertaining to the history of American Sign Language research.

The presidential portraits that have resided in Chapel Hall for years will also be moving to College Hall. Look for them lining the walls of the central staircase starting this fall.
