What's New at the World Deaf Information Resource Project?

People frequently email us with new information and updates for the World Deaf Information Resource Project (WDIRP) website. (Don’t be shy! You too can submit information for the website! Consult the Submit page for instructions.) This page can help you find the most recent changes at our website.

Some of the same information in this website is also provided in a Word file and PDF file, both of which you can download from the front page of the World Deaf Information Resource Project. We will try to provide an updated version of these files on a periodic basis. However, the most recent information will always be at this website.

Changes to come
The WDIRP database is currently under development. Hopefully, when this database is completed, a search function will be established that can be used to search for deaf organizations.

Changes in 2010

May 28, 2010: In May, we updated pages for the following countries: Albania, Argentina, Belarus, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, DR Congo, Estonia, Ethiopia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovak Republic, and Ukraine. Also, we have added internal page links to some of the country pages to improve user friendliness of our website.

April 28, 2010: New Deaf schools, interpreters, and sports organizations were added to the Brazil page. The United Kingdom page was reorganized by countries and regions, and other new information was added.
March 29, 2010: We added two new organizations to the Netherlands page, FODOK and Stichting Plotsdoven. Also, three territories in East Asia were updated: Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan.

March 24, 2010: We updated pages for Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, and Sweden.

March 10, 2010: We added several new organizations to the Philippines page.

March 8, 2010: Kuala Lumpur Society for the Deaf was added to the Malaysia page.

March 3, 2010: We added The Finnish Federation of Hard of Hearing, Svenska hörselförbundets (Swedish Hearing Association), Finnish Association of Parents of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children (The KLVL) on the Finland page. We added new organizations to the Canada page: Canadian Hearing Society, Independent Living Canada, Canadian Hard of Hearing Association, and South-East Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services. We also updated and added organizations for Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, and Denmark pages.

March 1, 2010: Belize NAD is no longer operating, and was therefore removed from the Belize page. If you have any information you would like to submit for Belize, please contact the WDIRP.

February 25, 2010: We finished updating the India page by adding a list of Deaf schools. We also created sub-pages for each state.

February 15, 2010: We created a new page for Chad with Deaf organizations and schools. A new organization, Las Voces del Silencio (LAVOSI), was added to the Guatemala page.

February 12, 2010: We updated the Argentina page with organizations in Buenos Aires City, Province of Buenos Aires, Catamarca, Chaco, Chubut, Cordoba, Corrientes, Entre Rios, Jujuy, La Rioja, Mendoza, Misiones, Neuquen, Rio Negro, Salta, San Juan, Santa Cruz, Santa Fe, and Tierra del Fuego Tucuman. We also began uploading schools in all 28 states and seven union territories of India. Sub-pages were added to accommodate the large number of Deaf schools in India.

February 8, 2010: For the Jordan page, we added new deaf schools in Al Karak, Amman, Az Zaraqa’, and Irbid provinces.

February 4, 2010: For the South Africa page, a contact person and principal were added to Carel du Toit Centre and website, and a description was added to the Dominican-Grimley School. A new organization, deafPLUS, was added to the UK page.

February 3, 2010: New contact information was added under Uvira Deaf Association, and a new organization, Association de développement pour les sourds Bukavu (ADSB), was added to the DR Congo page.

February 1, 2010: A new page for Haiti was added to the World Deaf Information Resource Project. Several new organizations were added to the Sierra Leone page, including organizations for interpreters, sports, religions, and Deaf schools.

January 19, 2010: Email addresses were added for “Friends in Need” on the Lebanon page.

January 15, 2010: A new Site Map was created to help guide people through the World Deaf Information Resource Project. The Southern Sudan Deaf Development Concern organization is added to the Sudan page.

January 14, 2010: About 100 deaf schools were added to the Ethiopia page.

Changes in 2009
December 17, 2009: Two organizations, the Auroa Deaf Aid Africa and Discovering Deaf Worlds, were added to the International Deaf and Disability Organizations page under the subsection for “Organizations Working in Developing Countries.”

December 15, 2009: The South Africa page was dramatically expanded from a listing of just five organizations to more than 170 organizations and schools throughout the country. Because of this expansion, it became necessary to add a number of sub-pages: National Organizations in South Africa, Interpreters and Sign Language Organizations in South Africa, Service Agencies in South Africa, and Cross-Disability Organizations in South Africa. There is also a sub-page for each of the nine provinces in South Africa: Eastern Cape, Freestate, Gauteng, Kwazulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape, North West, and Western Cape. For deaf-blind organizations, gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender/intersex organizations, deaf cultural arts organizations, deaf sports organizations, and universities in South Africa, please consult the National Organizations in South Africa page.

December 9, 2009: The Laboratory of Communication Problems was added to the Ukraine page.

December 8, 2009: The name and address for the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf was corrected on the International Deaf and Disability Organizations page.

November 25, 2009: The Deaf Basketball Club and its contact information was added to the Zimbabwe page. An SMS number was added for the South African National Deaf Association (SANDA) on the South Africa page. The “What’s New at the WDIRP website?” page was created. (That’s the page you’re reading right now!)

October 7-November 24, 2009: Many organizations and individuals contacted the WDIRP to share new information, which was added to the website.

October 6, 2009: The WDIRP website was publicized, including dissemination of the first edition (October 2009) of a Word file and PDF file.

October 1, 2009: The WDIRP website was launched.
