Overview

As a part of the Equity and Belonging Strategic Action Plan, the Division of Equity, Diversity and Inclusive Excellence (DEDI) has created the Inclusive Excellence Student Ambassadors (IESA) program for DEDI paraprofessionals, student organization officers, and select students who have a passion for social justice and community engagement. This program is run by the Intercultural Alliances Manager. The Inclusive Excellence Student Ambassadors (IESAs) trains students in intercultural sensitivity, systems of oppression, and social justice. IESAs will serve as liaisons between DEDI and the student body. Goals:
  • Increase intercultural competence, emotional intelligence, and capacity for empathy.
  • Develop the knowledge and skills needed to navigate a multicultural world.
  • Participate in national, local and community outreach activities that advance the cause of social justice.
  • Cultivate student leaders who are passionate about addressing and closing equity gaps.
Student Ambassador Responsibilities:
  • Create additional opportunities and provide resources for student organizations to engage in activities that support DEDI’s Equity and Belonging Strategic Action plan.
  • Model institutional and divisional values that help foster a campus culture of inclusivity that acknowledges and celebrates the diverse backgrounds, abilities and experiences of all students.
  • Assist in increasing campus awareness of issues, needs, and/or concerns related to equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Assist in providing safe and spaces for courageous conversations that confront and examine  campus and community issues of injustice with student groups.
  • Act as liaisons, providing student perspectives and concerns with Gallaudet leaders.
