Overview

As a part of the Equity and Belonging Strategic Action Plan, the Division of Equity, Diversity and Inclusive Excellence (DEDI) has created the Inclusive Excellence Ambassadors (IEA) program for faculty and staff who have a passion for social justice and community engagement. This program is run by the Intercultural Alliances Manager.

The IEA program trains faculty and staff in intercultural sensitivity, systems of oppression, and social justice. Ambassadors serve as liaisons between DEDI and their respective units and/or their divisions.

Ambassador Responsibilities:

  • Serve as liaisons, sharing perspectives and concerns with Gallaudet leaders.
  • Provide resources for divisions to engage in activities that support DEDI’s Equity and Belonging Strategic Action plan.
  • Model institutional and divisional values that foster a campus culture of inclusivity that acknowledges and celebrates the diverse backgrounds, abilities and experiences of all faculty and staff.
  • Assist in increasing campus awareness of issues, needs, and/or concerns related to equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Influencing equitable policies, practices and procedures throughout the university.
  • Engage in strategic data collection from faculty and administration in order to identify strategies to further cultivate and enrich an inclusive university community.
  • Assist in providing safe and spaces for courageous conversations that confront and examine  campus and community issues of injustice with faculty and staff.
  • Develop, facilitate and evaluate related training and activities pertaining to equity, diversity and inclusion.
