Hispanic Heritage Month
Every year from September 15 through October 15, people in the United States celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month. At Gallaudet, our celebration of the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic/Latina/o/x Americans during this period is uniquely enhanced by the infusion of Deafcentric perspectives.
The Division of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (DEDI); the Latinx Student Union (LSU), and the Office of University Communications have planned several activities and events for National Hispanic Heritage Month. In addition, many events and activities are scheduled in the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area. Highlights:
1. Turn-a-Page-Together (TAPT): This is a cornerstone program of Intercultural Alliances Programs. TAPT will be held on Mondays from September 13 to November 15 from noon to 1 p.m. ET at the JSAC Sprint Multipurpose Room; and Thursdays from September 16 to November 18 from 3 to 4 p.m. ET via Zoom meeting.
The TAPT program is a multicultural book club offered each semester. It is open to students, faculty, staff, and alumni. It is also an opportunity for participants to share their diverse views and to experience thought-provoking discussions. This program will provide three different books discussing diverse topics; the book relevant to National Hispanic Heritage Month is I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter, by Erika L. Sanchez.
On-campus participants will receive a free book. Advance registration is required. Please fill out the registration form to reserve your spot.
2. The Division of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (DEDI) continues to host dialogues with Hispanic/Latina/o/x faculty and staff. More information will be shared with the community soon.
