Biographical Sketch
Ernest Marshall was born on January 2, 1910, in Poughkeepsie, New York. His parents were deaf. Marshall enrolled at the New York School for the Deaf at Fanwood in 1917 and graduated in 1931. He was employed as an interior decorator at the Mid-City Hotel in Manhattan for 38 years, retired in 1974. He was married to Alida Purdy on August 31, 1939. Marshall became interested in old silent movies and he was a movie projectionist in 1931 until 1994. He produced several films that involved Deaf actors. He passed away in Bronx, New York, in August, 1999.

Scope and Content
The papers of Ernest Marshall consist of one document box for a total of 0.5 linear feet and approximately 300 pages. The materials within the collection range from 1910 to 1995 within the majority of content from 1931 to 1966.

The bulk of the papers are his collection of his travels around the country, showing his films to the Deaf audiences. Includes in this collection are journals, flyers, list of screen showings, maps of his travels, program books, and correspondence. The most interesting items in the collection are the flyers for announcements of movies between 1937 and 1970.
