Leah Katz-Hernandez, ’10, was quoted in an article in The Hill newspaper on May 16. Katz-Hernandez, who is serving as an HSC Foundation Youth Transitions Fellow at the American Association of People with Disabilities, commented on the congressional internship program for people with intellectual disabilities.

Dave Galanter, Data Center engineer for Information Technology Services, co-wrote an online episode for Star Trek Phase 2 entitled “Enemy: Starfleet!” Galanter, who was profiled in the winter 2010 issue of Gallaudet Today magazine for his sideline as a science fiction writer, said, “One of the requests I made of the producers was that they caption the episode, and they followed through.”

Gallaudet Department of Athletics staff members John Davis, assistant head football coach and assistant head track coach, and Chuck Goldstein, head football coach and National Collegiate Athletic Association compliance coordinator, were part of the coaching staff for the Stars, who played the Stripes at the All American Bowl on May 7 in Charleston, W.Va., at the University of Charleston Stadium. They joined Scott Greene and Tony Messana of the University of Rochester. The All American Bowl, which was founded in 1996, is an all-star game showcasing the best football players from Divisions II and III.

Alisa Halliburton, ’96, who teaches students with autism at Shaw Middle School @ Garnet-Patterson and is the recipient of a Rubenstein Award for Highly Effective Teaching, was recently profiled on the District of Columbia Public Schools website. She is married to Duane Halliburton, ’85, a member of Gallaudet’s Board of Trustees.

Reed Gershwind, an instructor in the Department of Business and an award-winning swimmer, was recently inducted into the USA Deaf Sports Federation Hall of Fame.

Deaf in DC, a book by Dr. Madan Vasishta, an associate professor in the Department of Administration and Supervision, was reviewed in The Washington Post on May 25.
