Jeffrey Lewis

Dr, Lewis became Interim Provost in April 2020 after serving as a faculty member in the Department of Counseling for over 35 years. He served as Director of Gallaudet's M.A. Program in Mental Health Counseling for many years. Dr. Lewis, a counseling psychologist by training, has maintained a keen interest in student development and paraprofessional training since 1981. For many years he maintained a clinical practice in individual, couples and group psychotherapy and presented on various mental health topics nationally and internationally.

During his time as Interim Provost, Dr. Lewis helped to guide Academic Affairs through our 18 months of remote instruction, from March 2020 until August 2021. Dr. Lewis worked closely with other members of the Executive Team to transition Gallaudet back to on-campus operations, ensuring that the university provide a robust COVID-19 testing program and supporting the health and well-being of our campus community. Dr. Lewis also worked with administrators and faculty to support Gallaudet's academic restructuring, which formally began in August 2020.
