Hello! I was born in NY, just outside of Manhattan, and spent most of my summer and winter vacations with family in the Adirondack mountains in Old Forge, NY.  After graduation, I attended Boston University for a year and then transferred to Gallaudet 83'.  I moved back to NY, worked for 1.5 years at Fanwood, as a dorm supervisor, attended John Jay College in NY and gained the confidence to start interpreting as a profession.  By 1988, I was ready to move back to MD and as luck would have it, I arrived just in time to join the events of Deaf President Now.  I worked as a freelance interpreter, took classes at The BiCultural Center, and in 1991 was accepted into an intensive summer session at CSUN, "Interpreting in the American Judicial System".   From that point on, I pursued legal training and completed my studies in Criminal Justice at the University of Baltimore and was hired as a staff interpreter for GIS in 1998.  I am married to Allen Markel '01 and '13 and the proud mother of two sons on GU Soccer Team, Elan and AJ and a Deaf daughter, Ksenia.
