Abby W. Palmer Asbell Memorial
Scholarship Fund
Established in 2003, the fund provides scholarship support based on merit and financial
need: first, to Undergraduate students who have matriculated from the New York School for
the Deaf in White Plains, New York; otherwise, to graduate students pursuing a master of
arts in Deaf Education with a concentration in Teacher Preparation or Advanced Studies.
Alma & Edward West Memorial
Fund
The fund provides financial assistance to an Undergraduate deaf student from Virginia. It
is administered by the Director of Financial Aid.
André Muller International
Scholarship Endowment Fund
The Fund provides scholarship support for International Students (Undergraduate or
graduate) with a minimum GPA of 2.5 with preference given to students from Africa or
Europe.
Burr and Duesman Family
Scholarship Fund
Established in 2004, the fund provides financial assistance to deserving Undergraduate
students who are deaf or hard of hearing with preference given to those from Nebraska or
Wisconsin.
Catherine Jackson Moss
International Scholarship Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial assistance to Undergraduates, and/or
graduate, deaf and/or hearing students from outside the United States of America, who
have demonstrated financial need. Students must meet all requirements for admission
and have maintained a grade point average of 2.8 or better. Preference will be given to
students who intend, upon graduation of their academic studies, to return to their home
countries, where they will use the knowledge and skills they developed at Gallaudet to
become productive deaf or hard of hearing citizens in their home countries and/or to
contribute to the betterment of people in their home countries who are deaf or hard of
hearing. Students must be willing to sign a Letter of Intent to that effect. Preference will
also be given to students who have previously received financial assistance from the Fund
and successfully completed the courses for which the previous assistance was provided.
Chanda Nichele Smith, Class of
1998, Scholarship Fund
The purpose of this Fund is to provide financial support to a deaf and/or hard of hearing
incoming African American freshman or Undergraduate female student(s), with a GPA of
3.0 or higher, with preference given to applicants from either Baytown, Texas or the State
of Texas.
Class of 1940 Endowment Fund The fund provides general scholarship support to Undergraduate students needing
financial assistance.
Class of 1971 Scholarship Fund The fund provides assistance to deserving Undergraduate students

Goetter Family Scholarship Fund

students from the State of Nebraska and the State of Missouri. The first criterion of the
award shall be academic achievement, the second criterion shall be financial need.

The fund provides financial assistance in the form of scholarship awards to Gallaudet
University Undergraduate students who are enrolled in the University’s Honors Program

Information Technology
Scholarship Award
The fund provides scholarship assistance for deaf and hard of hearing Undergraduate
students majoring in computer-related fields, which may include but are not limited to,
computer science or computer information systems.

Scholarship Fund
The purpose of this fund is to “provide scholarship assistance to deaf or hard of hearing
Undergraduate students from Tennessee and West Virginia. Students must have displayed
financial need and maintain a C average or better.”
Janet E. Weaver Scholarship Fund The fund provides financial assistance to Undergraduate or graduate students with
preference to those who use or plan to teach “cued speech” manual communication
methods.
Jeanette L. Padgett Scholarship
Fund
The Fund provides a scholarship based on financial need for a deaf Undergraduate student
majoring in social work, education, or English, with first preference given to students from
Texas.
Leland B. & Lucille B. May
Scholarship Fund
This fund was to provide assistance to deserving female graduate and Undergraduate
students at Gallaudet. Students must either be US or Canadian citizens.
Lorna C. Werble Memorial
Scholarship Fund
This fund provides scholarship support for full-time Undergraduate or graduate students
at the University who have demonstrated a need for financial assistance. In selecting
scholarship recipients, preference is to be given to deaf or hard of hearing students from
the states of West Virginia or Maryland.
Mary Alleen Sellers Scholarship Provides Undergraduate students with scholarships: first-time recipients having a 3.0 GPA
or higher and renewing scholarship recipients having a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
Mary Pickford Scholarship Fund This fund was to provide financial assistance to deserving Undergraduate and graduate
students who are enrolled in degree programs at Gallaudet. All candidates for fund
scholarships must demonstrate unmet needs for financial aid.
Mickey Dale Memorial Scholarship
Fund
This fund provides financial support/scholarships for Undergraduate students with 3.0 or
higher GPA and demonstrated financial needs with preference given to students who have
received the award in previous years.

Rowley Family Scholarship Fund The fund provides scholarship assistance to either an Undergraduate or graduate student
Sallie Ben Guest Scholarship The Fund provides scholarship assistance to Undergraduate students. For first time
recipients, preference will be given to students with a GPA (either high school or last
semester as a full-time student) of 3.0 or higher, but no less than 2.5. And for renewing
scholarship recipients, preference will be given to students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher, but
no less than 2.8. Provides Undergraduate students with scholarships: first-time recipients

3.0 or above; demonstrate a desire to return to their nation of residence to help educate
and advance the lives of its deaf citizens.

health practices or the arts. If no such qualified candidate exists in a particular year,
Gallaudet may use its discretion in awarding the scholarship to support another female

Renewal awards are given to students who have previously received the scholarship and
demonstrate a Gallaudet grade point average of 3.5 or higher. The scholarships may not
be used to cover room or board expenses, or the purchase of books and school supplies.

demonstrated financial need and a GPA of 3.0 or better. Preference is given to those who
demonstrate a desire to advance the lives of Black deaf and hard of hearing people.

Read Family Scholarship This fund provides scholarship awards to deserving deaf students or persons training to
become teachers of the deaf who require financial assistance to attain their educational
goals. Preference is given to students interested in teaching deaf children in a developing
country or to assist a student from a developing country in attending Gallaudet. If the
college cannot identify such a student, or if the college’s priorities change, scholarships
may be awarded to any student the college selects.

students in Gallaudet’s School of Communication who have demonstrated high academic
performance. Preference is given to students who are graduates of the Colorado School

Scholarship Fund
This fund provides financial assistance to financially deserving, promising, deaf female
students from the School of Management. Preference will be given to minority deaf

The income is used to provide annual awards based on scholarship, leadership, and
fellowship to four male students, two of whom must be members of the Kappa Gamma
Fraternity.

Dorothy Hamberg Memorial Fund The Dorothy Hamberg Memorial Fund was established to provide scholarship assistance
for outstanding physical education and recreation majors, for graduate or Undergraduate
school assistance, and for special experience assistance.

Memorial Scholarship
The Fund provides an award to an outstanding Undergraduate student who demonstrates
success both in and outside the classroom. Financial need does not need to be
demonstrated. Langenberg scholars should hold a GPA of 2.8 and above, as well as
demonstrated success in one or more of the following areas: athletics, arts, leadership in
student organizations, or involvement in community programs, civic programs and causes

Pritchard Memorial Endowment
The fund provides scholarships to deaf or hearing students who are training to become
teachers of deaf and hard of hearing people. The students must demonstrate financial
need and remain in good academic standing.
David S. Martin Endowed Fund This fund will provide financial assistance to students from developing countries enrolled
in one of the degree programs (B.A., M.A., Ph.D.) through the Department of Education.
Deaf Way II Student Scholarship Financial assistance to freshman students from developing countries.

This fund is to provide a merit award to a member or members of Eta Psi Chapter of Delta
Sigma Phi Fraternity in recognition of outstanding academic performance in the prior

The fund was set up to provide financial assistance to Gallaudet students as follows:
1) Half of the available monies supports a merit award which will be given to a student
participating in the Gallaudet Foreign Studies Program. Candidates for this award must
have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Preference will be given to students entering their junior year.
2) The remaining half of the available monies provide assistance for students majoring in
Graphic Design in the Art Department

The full name of this fund is the Joseph L. Mattivi Memorial Scholarship Fund benefitting
the School of Management. Money earned from this fund will provide scholarships for
students that need financial assistance.
Liberace Award for Outstanding
Achievement in Music
The fund supports scholarships for deaf and hard of hearing students in Gallaudet’s Music
Program who have excellent academic standing and demonstrated financial need.
Lillian Gourley Rakow, ‘28 Creative
Writing Award
The fund will provide an annual award to a sophomore, junior and senior with
demonstrated creative writing ability. The student will be chosen on the basis of
a portfolio submitted to the English Department and evaluated by a three-person
committee.
Linwood D. Smith Memorial Fund The fund provides scholarship assistance to African-American deaf and hard of hearing
junior, senior, and graduate students with a GPA of 2.5 or better.
Lisa Joan Bott Scholarship Fund The fund will provide scholarships to deaf and hard of hearing students.
Philip J. Schmitt Memorial Fund This fund support student scholarships and special visiting lectureships related to
Education.
Sasakawa International
Scholarship Fund
The fund will provide financial assistance to deserving deaf international students who are
enrolled in degree-granting programs at Gallaudet. Preference will be given to students
who are residents of developing countries.
The George M. Teegarden, 1876
Creative Writing Award Fund
The income is used for one annual award to a student in recognition of excellence in
creative writing, either poetry or prose.
The Hazel B. Waldron Endowed
Fund
The fund is used to support the students, faculty, and programs of the Department of
American Sign Language and Deaf Studies.
The Phi Kappa Zet Sorority Award
Fund
This fund provides four annual scholarships.
The Ray & Louise Tully Memorial
Scholarship Fund
This fund provides scholarship assistance to students in the School of Education and
Human Services with preference given to those students in the Counseling Department.
The Robert Mounty Scholarship
Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide scholarship support for deaf and hard of hearing
Gallaudet University students who have demonstrated academic excellence while
majoring in communication studies, English, theatre arts, or digital media, or minoring in
journalism. Preference will be given to students with displayed financial need.
The Tower Clock Scholarship Fund This fund provides awards to full-time students with good academic standing (above 3.0)
and character who have made significant contributions to the University community.
The World Deaf Leadership
Scholars Fund
Scholarships (full tuition, room, board) to students from developing countries with a
commitment towards returning to their home country. Provides support for a University
WDL mentor. Also provides for up to two internships.
