Policy

GTS Network Operations (NetOps) strives to provide stable and secure connectivity to internal and external resources to the Campus community. NetOps has implemented measures intended to maintain acceptable levels of service, privacy and security. It rigorously analyzes and tests modifications to the network environment against an established list of essential systems and services.

The majority of off-the-shelf, network-aware devices are able function properly without additional configuration. However, due to the rapid development of personal technology devices, such as mobile phones, pagers, PDAs, portable music/video players and entertainment systems, it is not feasible to acquire, test, verify and ultimately support a vast array of non-standard devices and their unique operating systems. NetOps will make a “best effort” to accommodate a non-standard device, however it is unable to provide in-depth support and will not compromise the greater privacy, security and service of the University’s technology environment. The list of supported and verified equipment and devices is available at the end of this page. To this end, it is not GTS practice to create exceptions to established operating procedures.

As a matter of protocol, changes to departmental systems, technology and resources that rely on GTS services should be submitted for approval via the IT Service Desk, to address support requirements as well as to review the change for impact on existing services.
