Grand Opening of Deaf HERstory
Mrs. Vicki Hurwitz
Mrs. Hurwitz is the former first lady of Gallaudet University and a former honorary chair of Friends of Gallaudet University Museum. She is a pioneer who established the first Deaf Women’s Studies course at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf in 1993. Since then, she has been a strong leader and proponent of various organizations relating to deaf women.
Dr. Jane Norman
Dr. Norman, director and curator emerita of Gallaudet University Museum, established the Museum in 2007 with its first exhibit, which opened in 2010.
Dr. Genie Gertz
Dr. Gertz is Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Gallaudet University. The Gallaudet University Museum currently works closely with Academic Affairs to create an interdisciplinary academic environment for Deaf History research and other Deaf History-related programs.
Dr. Arlene Blumenthal Kelly
Dr. Kelly is a professor at the Department of ASL and Deaf Studies at Gallaudet University. She was the academic coordinator for the interns involved with the development of the “Deaf HERstory” exhibition.
