Academics

A death that requires an emergency response is most likely a death that was sudden, caused by an accident, or a homicide. As a general rule one should immediately call or page DPS. Crisis Leadership Team (CLT) members will be notified. The first University person on the scene should follow these procedures:

  • Keep other people from viewing the victim and the surroundings.
  • Do not allow access to the body, or to the area where the body was found, to anyone other than DPS or MPD Police and homicide detectives.
  • Do not attempt to move the body or try to identify the victim.
  • Do not touch or attempt to move any physical evidence in the surrounding area.
