We are prepared to meet the unusual circumstances presented by the COVID-19 virus while still offering delicious and healthy meal options for our community. The Plaza Dining Hall will open as a staff-served and/or take-out program only, emphasizing and prioritizing safety by minimizing indoor interactions, requiring face masks and physically distancing. There will be a la carte items packaged by food service employees, grab-and-go options, as well as staff-served made to order meals available for purchase.

Quarantined Students:

  • Must pre order meals no later than one meal period in advance (e.g., pre order breakfast the night before, pre order lunch during breakfast hour, pre order dinner during lunch hour).
  • Can pre order an entire day or a week of meals on one email.
  • To pre order your meals, please email Contact.
  • Menus will be posted in advance at the following link: gallaudet.cafebonappetit.com.
  • Quarantined students must include the time they will come to pick up their food from Plaza Dining Hall.
  • The cost of the meal will be deducted prior to pick up and a receipt will be provided with your meal.
  • All pre ordered food must be picked up from the entrance on the right side of the Plaza Dining Hall, closest to the pond area.

Isolated Students:

  • Students who have been identified as COVID+ will be moved to the isolation dorm, Ballard North, 1st Floor.
  • Must pre order meals no later than one meal period in advance (e.g., pre order breakfast the night before, pre order lunch during breakfast hour, pre order dinner during lunch hour).
  • Can pre order an entire day or a week of meals on one email.
  • To pre order your meals, please email Contact.
  • Menus will be posted in advance at the following link: gallaudet.cafebonappetit.com.
  • Food Services will deliver meals at each meal period to the designated pick up location in Ballard North.
  • The cost of the meal will be deducted prior to delivery and a receipt will be provided with your meal.
  • All meals will be bagged and tagged with the student’s name.
  • Delivery personnel will wear appropriate PPE and will have no face-to-face contact with the students.
  • Students who are in isolation and would like a care package consisting of non-perishable food, snacks, fruits and beverages, should email Contact here and the care package will be delivered within 24 hours.

If you require accommodations for allergies or have special dietary restrictions, we provide additional accommodations on an individual, case by case basis. Please contact Sherri Necessary at Contact for guidance.

  • All students must wear a face mask.
  • Students should sanitize their hands prior to entering the Plaza Dining Hall.
  • All Food Service employees will follow the University prescribed process for keeping the campus safe by taking their temperature and completing the daily symptom checklist before coming to work.
  • Symptomatic employees will not be allowed on campus to report to work.
  • All Food Service employees will wear face masks, coverings and gloves while preparing and serving food. In some instances, face shields will be used as an added measure of protection.
  • Food Service is working with vendors to ensure they have policies in place to prevent anyone with symptoms of illness from coming to campus.
  • One-way directional signs and physical distancing floor markers will be posted throughout the dining hall for effective traffic flow and safety.
  • It is important that students ensure their ID is in good working condition and have selected this meal plan during business registration so that tapping their ID card to checkout will function without error. Cashiers will not handle/touch any IDs.
  • Disinfectant cleaners will be used on all surfaces. A food grade sanitizer will be used on all food contact surfaces.
  • Hand sanitizer will be placed and students should sanitize when entering the dining hall.
  • High contact areas will be subject to an intensive sanitizing schedule following DC Department of Health guidelines.
