Eligibility

Students who request any type of disability-related housing accommodations are required to contact the Housing Accommodations Committee to begin the interactive process to determine the specific accommodation(s) needed based on University availability.  Personal preference, as the desire for a quiet, undisturbed place to study, is insufficient to warrant a housing accommodation.

After the Housing Accommodations Committee is contacted, they will send an application which consist of two sections:

  1. To be filled out by the requester
  2. To be filled out by a qualified medical provider.
    1. must include an evaluation by a qualified medical provider that indicates a direct relationship between your disability;
    2. must include an assessment of the condition that is the basis for the accommodation request; and
    3. Provide a clear description of the required housing configuration.

The University reserves the right to request additional documentation if the information submitted appears outdated, inadequate in scope or content, does not address the student’s current level of functioning, or does not substantiate their need for accommodations.

Process for Approving Housing Requests

Following application submission, the review committee will conduct reasonable accommodations assessments on a case by case basis and consider the unique facts and circumstances involved in each request. This review process could take up to 30 days to be completed.

Once the review process is completed, the Housing Accommodations Committee will notify the requester of either their approval/denial status.  Approvals are a one time review and once approved, you will not need to reapply unless your circumstances change that impact your accommodations needs.
