Christopher Stone, PhD, describes the context of deaf interpreters in the UK.
The presentation introduced the idea of language in use, i.e. pragmatics.
Dr Stone explained a specific pragmatic theory, giving examples of decisions that interpreters make when covering regional television news in the UK.
Finally, he makes a brief comparison of the decisions made by deaf and non-deaf interpreters within a simulated news translation task and video.
