My name is Yudan Liu. I am a Chinese student at Gallaudet University. I started studying English and American Sign Language at the English Language Institute at Gallaudet University in 2011. Currently, I am a sophomore majoring in accounting. My goal is to establish and operate my own business in Chengdu, China, such as a tea house or a restaurant. Businesses always welcome deaf and hard of hearing people who are looking for a job. I want to help deaf people to develop their own businesses, and teach communication skills. I think it is important for the world to notice the deaf community. This opportunity would be wonderful for Chinese deaf and hard of hearing people to be able to work in the real world.

The Nippon Foundation provided the Sasakawa International Scholarship. My gratitude is hard to express because I do not have words to describe my thankfulness. I will remember their kindness and support in my heart. Due to the scholarship program, I am able to explore the deaf world more during my university life. Then I will be able to help deaf and hard of hearing people who need support and encouragement in China.
