GU Chosen As One of Top Value Universities by U.S. News & World Report

Gallaudet University was recently chosen by U.S. News & World Report as the number one Best Value Schools – Regional Universities (North) in the 2016 “U.S. News Best Colleges” ranking. According to U.S. News & World Report, the Best Value Schools are calculated through the university’s academic quality along with the 2014-2015 net cost of attendance for a student who receives the average level of need-based financial aid. Gallaudet was also number 19 on the Best Colleges – Regional Universities (North) list.

“The U.S. News & World Report ranking shows how Gallaudet University is committed to ensuring that the cost of tuition and fees remains fair,” said President T. Alan Hurwitz. “Gallaudet is considered “home” by our students because the university provides an environment where they can thrive, both inside and outside the classroom. Those types of experiences are valuable and Gallaudet University strives to see that all of the needs of our students are met.”

Students have many financing options such as scholarships, financial aid, and work-study, including:

  • Gallaudet’s merit-based scholarships are open to all deaf and hard of hearing undergraduate students whose scholastic and personal achievements are exemplary. These scholarships are awarded for up to four years of study, or three years for transfer students. All newly admitted students are automatically considered for these scholarships. • Private Scholarships can be rewarded to students by outside sources such as high schools, churches, community organizations, or private businesses. There are also several commercial scholarship search engines that can assist with a nationwide search for private scholarship programs.
  • Vocational Rehabilitation – 47 percent of students on campus receive some type of Vocational Rehabilitation support from their home states.
  • Federal Grant Aid are federal monies that do not need to be repaid, such as the Federal Pell Grant and Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant.
  • Federal Loans are monies that must be repaid after graduation or withdrawal from college. Federal loan programs include Federal Perkins Loans, Federal Stafford Loans, and Federal PLUS Loans.
  • Federal Work Study allows students to earn money during the fall and spring semesters through part-time employment.

There are other financial resources available such as:

  • On-campus employment not supported by Federal Work Study.
