Areas of Study

All employees and students on campus must be tested weekly with the PCR COVID-19 test. The test offered on campus is the saliva-based PCR COVID test by Shield T3. Other types of test, such as rapid tests, are less accurate and not accepted.

  • Monday—Friday: 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. (at SLCC) and 8 a.m.-7 p.m. (at SHS)
  • Saturday: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. (at SHS)
  • Sunday: CLOSED

**Special Hors:

Thursday, August 4: 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. (at SLCC) and 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (at SHS)
Friday, August 5: 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (at SHS)

Testing results availability

Weekdays: within 8-12 hours after closing

To schedule an appointment:

To schedule an appointment and to receive the results from your test, download the Safer Community smartphone app from the Apple iOS or Google Play store.

  • Sign in using your Gallaudet University single sign-on (SSO) credentials.
  • Once signed in, please be sure to go to settings and input all personal information. This is what we will need in order to check in all patients.
  • You will receive your test results through this app.

Before Appointment:

You must be hydrated. Drink fluids beforehand, up to 1 hour before your test.

For 1 hour before your test, you may not:

  • Drink, not even water
  • Eat
  • Chew gum
  • Take medication
  • Brush your teeth
  • Smoke
  • Use chewing tobacco

If your sample cannot be analyzed, you will need to do it again.

Compliance

Individuals who do not comply with weekly PCR COVID-19 testing may have their system access turned off on Day 9 after their last PCR test (including weekend days), or if they have not yet completed a PCR test.

System access means your access to Gallaudet email, WiFi, Blackboard, Navigate, and any other Gallaudet app or online service. All of those will be turned off.

Your system access is automatically turned back after completing a COVID test at the SLCC Atrium. This may take up to 24 hours. If you test off-campus, you may email your results to Contact here, but be aware that it takes up to three business days to process and your system access will not turn on until your results are processed.

Holidays, vacations, and sick leave

If you are away from campus for more than seven (7) days, you can maintain your system access by emailing Contact here with your planned return date. If you are an employee, please copy your manager or supervisor on the email for verification.

System access will be reset after academic breaks. You will have a five-business day grace period after the break ends to get tested. Depending on the COVID positivity rate in the D.C. area and around the country, Gallaudet may decide to require testing two times within one week upon return from academic break.

  • Fall break (November 24-25): you will have until Friday, December 3 to get tested
  • Winter break (December 25-January 1): you will have until Friday, January 7 to get tested

Remote status

If you have official extended remote status, your system access will not be turned off. If you have questions about your remote status, please contact your supervisor or academic advisor.

If your system access has been turned off and you have official remote status, please email Contact here describing your remote status, and copy your supervisor or academic/faculty advisor on the email for verification.
