Welcome Employers!

Gallaudet University prides itself on fostering bilingual education and collaborating with employers across sectors. With a thriving student body and a global alumni network of 23,000 individuals, including leaders in various fields, we are committed to preparing students for success in the workforce. We look forward to partnering with you to create meaningful opportunities for our students.

Hiring Gallaudet Students Will Transform Your WorkForce!

By developing a relationship with Gallaudet, you are building a talent pipeline for qualified applicants who are deaf or hard of hearing. Hiring Gallaudet students and graduates or alumni for internships and jobs can be a win-win situation. Our students not only have the skills but also bring unique experiences to the workplace, offering fresh perspectives that drive innovation.

High-Impact Recruiting Strategies:

The National Association of Colleges and Employers is the national association that governs our career center’s standards and practices. We utilize high-impact recruiting strategies such as, but not limited to, career fairs, classroom visits, mock interviews, field trips to work sites, and professional development (workshops targeted not only for students but also for alumni, faculty, and staff). Employers are encouraged to serve as subject matter experts beyond basic career advice (e.g., job searching, resume writing, and interview strategies) to provide industry-specific insights.

Creating a Supportive and Accessible Workplace Culture:

At Gallaudet University, we ensure that our student body—including Deaf, DeafBlind, DeafDisabled, and hard of hearing students—has the support and access needed to succeed.

When partnering with employers, we emphasize accessibility and engagement to foster meaningful connections with our students. To ensure smooth planning, all event logistics must be finalized at least thirty days in advance. Please consider this timeline when scheduling classroom visits, mock interviews, and other networking opportunities to allow for proper coordination and accessibility arrangements.

Resources for Employers:

Our next Internship and Job Fair will be held in October 2025. This full-day event will include professional learning opportunities for students, alumni, and employers. If you are interested in participating, please contact our office.

Internship Opportunities:

Gallaudet students gain hands-on experience through internships with private and public employers across the country and abroad. Approximately 90% of students complete at least one internship before graduation. These internships also educate employers on best practices for integrating deaf and hard of hearing employees into their workforce.

Employer High-Impact Recruiting Services

Gallaudet University’s Office for Career Success provides comprehensive services to assist organizations with their recruitment needs. Our employer partnerships are vital to student success.

On-Campus Recruiting Options:

  • Handshake Job Postings: Post internships, part-time, and full-time jobs on Handshake. Creating an account is quick and easy
  • Internship and Job Fairs/Niche Fairs: Fairs are one of the best ways to connect with students and alumni. Check Handshake or our website for event details.
  • Classroom Presentations & Networking: Engage students by presenting on your organization and opportunities.
  • On-Campus & Virtual Interviews: We provide professional interview spaces and virtual options via videophone, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams.
  • Mock Interview Program: Help students refine their interview skills and gain experience using ASL interpreters in professional settings. This also serves as an opportunity for employers to engage with potential candidates.
  • Employer Field Trips: Invite students to your workplace for a tour, networking, and an inside look at career opportunities within your organization.

Communication and Accommodations:

Gallaudet students are well-versed in common communication strategies. Since each deaf or hard of hearing individual has their own preferences, we encourage employers to ask their interns or employees about their preferred communication method.

Common workplace accommodations include:

  • Sign language interpreters
  • Video relay interpreting
  • Real-time captioning
  • Accessible technology solutions

As accessibility technology continues to evolve, consult with the Office for Career Success for the latest tools and best practices to facilitate clear communication and ensure a smooth work experience.
