Welcome Employers!
Gallaudet University prides itself on fostering bilingual education and collaborating with employers across sectors. With a diverse student body and a global alumni network of 23,000 individuals, including leaders in various fields, we are committed to preparing students for success in the workforce. We look forward to partnering with you to create meaningful opportunities for our students.
Hiring Gallaudet Students Will Transform Your WorkForce!
By developing a relationship with Gallaudet, you are building a talent pipeline for qualified applicants who are deaf or hard of hearing. Hiring Gallaudet students and graduates or alumni for internships and jobs can be a win-win situation. Our students not only have the skills but also bring unique experiences to work, providing new perspectives that lead to new ideas and innovative practices.
High-Impact Recruiting Strategies
The National Association of Colleges and Employers is the national association that governs our career center’s standards and practices. We utilize high-impact recruiting strategies such as, but not limited to, Career Fairs, Classroom visits, Mock interviews, Field trips to work sites, and Professional Development (workshops targeted not only for students but also for alumni, faculty, and staff). We invite employers to connect as subject matter experts, and we especially encourage going beyond basic career advice (such as job searching, resume advice, and interviewing strategies).
Building a Culture of Belonging in the Workplace
At Gallaudet University, we prioritize inclusivity to accommodate the diverse needs of our student body, including Deaf, DeafBlind, DeafDisabled, and Hard of Hearing students. For employers recruiting our students, we work hard to ensure all of our events are fully inclusive for our students. This means that to facilitate effective planning, we must finalize all event logistics at least thirty days out. Please kindly consider this timeline when contacting our office for classroom visits, mock interviews and other networking opportunities.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Gallaudet students further their education through internships with private and public employers across the country and abroad. Approximately 90% of students will complete at least one internship experience before graduation. The internship experience also educates employers about how to integrate a deaf or hard-of-hearing individual into their workforce.
Employer High-Impact Recruiting Services
Gallaudet University’s Office for Career Success provides a comprehensive array of services to assist organizations with their recruitment needs. Our relationship with employers is vital to student success. On-Campus Recruiting includes the following models:

Internship and Job Fairs/Niche Fairs
Fairs offered each semester are one of the BEST ways to reach students and alumni. Information regarding our fairs can be found on our website or in your Handshake account.
Classroom Presentations/Networking Table/Sessions:
Present information about your organization and current/future opportunities while engaging students in discussion.
On Campus Interviews
A professional interview space is provided to employers. Interviews may also be conducted via videophone or Zoom/Microsoft Teams platform.
Mock Interview Session or Program:
Allows our students and alumni to practice and receive feedback from employers on their interviewing skills. Employers may also use mock interviews as a recruiting tool to engage with our students and practice using ASL interpreters in a professional interview.
Employer Field Trips:
Visits are designed to promote your organization through student visits to your workplace. Students can tour the workplace, meet with various employees and managers, and learn firsthand about different types of opportunities within your organization
Communication and Accommodations
Gallaudet students are well versed in common communication strategies. As each deaf or hard of hearing individual has their own communication preferences, ask your intern/employee what works best for them. Some examples of accommodations are using sign language interpreters, video relay interpreting, and real time captioning. Accessibility technology is rapidly changing, consult with the Office for Career Success to find out the latest resources available to facilitate communication.
