What is Handshake?

Handshake is Gallaudet University’s internship and job platform for finding internships, on-campus student employment, and jobs. Access it online or through the app.

For Students (Undergraduate, Graduate, Online):

  • Activate Your Account: Sign up at GU.Live/Handshake using SSO. You can also find this on Gallaudet Okta.
    • Login Instructions: View “Students – How To Login into Handshake” video in ASL here.
  • Explore Opportunities: Search by your major or interests, e.g., “Information Technology,” to find relevant jobs and internships.
  • Create Your Profile: Include your resume and other key materials. A complete profile greatly improves your chances of getting noticed by employers.
    • View “Students – How To Customize your Handshake Profile” video in ASL here.
  • How to Save a Job: Click the “Save” button on the job listing. This will add the job to your saved listings for easy access later.
    • View “Students – How To Save a Job in Your Handshake Account” video in ASL here.
  • How to find Jobs/Internships: Use the filtering capabilities in Handshake to filter out for work authorization.  For all jobs endorsed by the school, scroll down to the bottom to find “Labels by your school” to find jobs of interest.
    • View “Students – How To Find Jobs & Internships for all and international students (work authorization)” video in ASL here.
  • International Students: Employers will advertise their ability to sponsor visas. You can use the search filters to screen these opportunities. For step-by-step guidance on creating and optimizing your profile, visit our International Student Job Application Tips resource page. Also, explore the U.S. government’s guidelines on employment and internships for international students here: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Employment Guidelines.
  • How to edit your profile visibility: To make your Handshake profile private, go to your profile settings, select “Private” under privacy options, and save your changes, or update document visibility by unchecking the “Visible” option in the Documents section.
    • View “Handshake – Making Your Profile Visible” video in ASL here.
