The iconic Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet-Alice Cogswell statue on the south end of campus is included in a new book, 111 Places in Women History in Washington, DC That You Must Not Miss, by Kaitlin Calogera and Rebecca Grawl. This book is a compilation of historic sites related to women, from the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sisterhood Mural at Howard University to the Zitkala-Ša, a.k.a. Red Bird Women’s Suffrage Mural in Southeast Washington.
Co-author Kaitlin Calogera and photographer Cynthia Schiavetto Staliunas visited Gallaudet in May. The resulting two-page spread includes a narrative, a close-up photograph of the Gallaudet-Cogswell statue, and information for prospective visitors. It also mentions Agatha Tiegel Hanson, 1893, the first woman to graduate from the National Deaf-Mute College with a four-year degree.
