Steve Walker CDI, CLIP-R, has worked with GIS as freelance and a staff since 1992. With more than 29 years as an interpreter, interpreter educator, and mentor, Steve brings diverse skills and experience to Gallaudet University.Steve's areas of expertise include DeafBlind, International Signing, medical, mental health, platform, legal interpreting and Deaf/hearing interpreting.

Steve has a long history of service to the interpreting profession on both the national and local level, including term on the Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf (RID)-Deaf Caucus and variety of roles for PCRID. He is also an active member of the Conference of Interpreter Trainers.

In addition to his work as an interpreter, Steve has extensive experience as an instructor and a trainer. He hast taught over 100 seminars and workshops in several countries across the glove. Steve also serves an an instructor and guest lecturer at Montgomery College where he has taught Deaf Culture courses to students from a wide array of majors.

Steve is married to Krista Leitch Walker, a human resources administrator and organizational development consultant. Together, they are the proud parents of three adult children, sons Joshua and Kris, and daughter Stephanie and her partner, Prashant. They are also ecstatic, doting grandparents to their grandson, Keiran Jai.
