Marc D. Holmes, Ph.D. CI/CT/NIC SC:L, CoreCHI Master Mentor, joined GIS as a Staff Interpreter in January 2011.  With more than 30 years as an interpreter, interpreter educator, and mentor, Marc brings a diverse background to his work here at Gallaudet.  Marc’s areas of specialty include post-secondary, medical, mental health, legal interpreting, and theatrical interpreting. 

In addition to interpreting, Marc has worked as an adjunct professor for more than 20 years.  In addition to his interpreter certification, he received his Doctorate of Philosophy in Interpretation in 2022, has a Masters of Education in Interpreting Pedagogy from Northeastern University, as well as a Master Mentor Certificate from the Northeastern University Project.Tiem. 

Marc has also served the interpreting profession in a number of ways.  He served a term on the Board of the Potomac Chapter of RID and prior to that served for more than six years in various roles for Pennsylvania RID, as well as being the webmaster and interpreting coordinator for the RID Region I conference in 2006.  He remains active in various local and national organizations by maintaining memberships and participation in the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Conference of Interpreter Trainers and American Sign Language Teachers’ Association.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Marc is married to a fellow RID certified interpreter Melanie who together are the proud parents of a recent college graduate, Noah.
