Union Market becomes hub for deaf community

Providing a Unique Shopping and Dining Experience for the Deaf Community

Gallaudet’s neighbor the Union Market was recently highlighted by Voice of America news as a unique shopping and dining experience for the local deaf and hearing community. The newly renovated historic market was designed with deaf-friendly features including wider pathways between stalls making it easier to talk and walk, and lots of lighting. Many of the businesses have hired deaf employees and hearing employees who can sign. The market has quickly become a favorite hangout for Gallaudet students, faculty, and staff.
