Overview

This investigation was designed to provide evidence of benefits resulting from short-term aural rehabilitation (AR) for post-lingually deafened adult cochlear implant (CI) users in a randomized controlled multi-site study. Key components of the AR intervention include auditory training, informational counseling on cochlear implant use and assistive technology, and communication management strategies training.

KTH Speech Tracking software was developed for use in this study. It is a clinician-directed technique used to improve auditory perceptual skills. Visit the RERC website to see the software, training video, and FAQs..

The Rehabilitation Engineering Center (RERC) on Hearing Enhancement received funding for this study from the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Education (Grant # H133E030006).
