Protecting your confidentiality is a priority to us. All CAPS staff and trainees follow confidentiality laws, professional ethical guidelines, and we know the deaf community have specific confidentiality needs, relating to accessing mental health services.

Information about clients is kept confidential among Counseling and Psychological Services professional staff in accordance with legal and professional ethical requirements. No information will be released to any outside person or agency without written permission by the client, except instances when:

  • a client threatens or is at risk of harm to themself
  • a client’s statements or actions threaten to harm others
  • there is reasonable suspicion of child abuse or neglect
  • there is reasonable suspicion of abuse or neglect of a dependent adult
  • records are court ordered by a judge compelling disclosure.

We will not discuss clinical information through email, but we will use email to set up or change appointment times if a client has consented on their Client Information Form.
