Areas of Study

While Professional Studies and Training (PST) courses do not count toward a Gallaudet degree, many are eligible for Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf-CEU credits. These highly flexible courses are offered on-campus, online, or both. Courses are open to adults with a high school diploma or its equivalent, undergraduate and graduate students, and visiting students from other colleges.

Course subjects include but are not limited to: ASL, Deaf Studies, Linguistics, Interpreting, and Deaf Education. There are two types of Professional Studies courses:

  • PST-prefixed courses are designated as individual courses and generally do not lead to a professional studies certificate These courses may only be offered through CCOE or cross-listed with undergraduate courses.
  • PSG-prefixed courses are graduate-level courses and may be cross-listed with graduate school courses. They also may be part of a graduate-level professional studies certificate program.
