Cesar Ayala, ’12, was one of ten finalists in the Mr. Gay America competition held August 16-18 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Cesar was one of 39 contestants this year. He represented Gay Nevada America. Cesar was accompanied by interpreter Aaron Halleck and Los Angeles-based Deaf dancers Jerome Starr and Thy Nguyen.

Cesar said that this was his first time in the competition, whereas several other contestants had entered multiple times, including this year’s winner, Christopher Iman, Mr. Gay Southwest America. He also said that he was approached after the competition by representatives for Mr. Gay World. The producer asked Cesar if he would be interested in competing in Mr. Gay World. “I was like, yes, I am down!” Cesar replied.
