GUAA Awards

The GUAA presents three annual awards:

GUAA Advocacy and Social Justice Award in honor of Gertrude Scott Galloway, ’51, PhD ’93 & H-’02
To an individual who has been a strong advocate for social justice for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Outstanding Young Alumnus Award
To a young Gallaudet alumnus or alumna who has graduated or left the University within the past 15 years and has accomplished some notable achievement in his or her personal or professional life that brought favorable recognition to the University.

GUAA Service to Others Award in honor of Pauline ‘Polly’ Peikoff, E-’36
To individuals within the deaf community who have contributed significantly to the community, especially as volunteers.

Clerc Cultural Committee Awards

The Clerc Cultural Committee Awards were established by the CCC and GUAA to honor outstanding contributions to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.

The 3 Awards: Innovation, Art, and Advocacy are presented to either an individual, group or organization that has made outstanding efforts at the local, state, national or global level.

Nominees may be either deaf or hearing and do not have to be alumni of Gallaudet University.

Nominations can be made by anyone. A second nominator is required for the nomination to be considered and cannot originate from a current member of the CCC. All nominations submitted may be considered for up to two award cycles.

Please describe the nominee’s significant accomplishments and relevant contributions to Innovation, Art or Advocacy. (Please describe why they deserve this award in 250 words or less)

  • A letter of recommendation from each nominator*
  • Curriculum Vitae or resume of the nominee or if an organization/company/institution, a description of mission, mandate, activities, size, successes and other relevant information, and any other material that supports the nomination.
  • Letter of recommendation from Nominator 1 (doc or pdf only)*
  • Letter of recommendation from Nominator 2 (doc or pdf only)*
  • Any other material (i.e., newspaper article, award citation, pictures) that supports the nomination (You may attach ZIP file)
