The Department of Interpretation at Gallaudet University is pleased to announce the second Symposium on Signed Language Interpretation and Translation Research, to be held March 31-April 2, 2017, at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. The symposium will be preceded by the inaugural Signed Language Translation Global Summit, to be held March 29-30, 2017.

The purpose of the symposium is to promote the exchange of scholarship on signed language interpretation and translation as well as provide a platform for interdisciplinary research in fields such as linguistics, communication, sociology, psychology, anthropology, and education. The symposium is a unique gathering in which participants can learn about research on signed language interpretation and translation, cultivate connections among scholars and students, and gain knowledge and ideas about research advancements in our field.

The symposium provides a rare opportunity for researchers and students from around the world to convene, share, and discuss evidence-based studies on signed language interpretation and translation. We welcome your participation in the discussion!

The aim of the summit is to create a space in which deaf scholars and professionals can explore the historical roots and discuss the current trends in translation by deaf people across the globe. The summit offers an intimate and informal venue for deaf participants to discuss, develop, and share international perspectives and the activity of translation within the deaf community.
