Participate in a two-part study and...
We are interested in understanding how the brain processes simple arithmetic problems. In our study, you will be answering simple arithmetic problems (e.g., 2 x 6 or 8 – 3) while in the magnetic resonance imaging scanner (MRI) and we record the naturally occurring activity in your brain. To do this, we will have you participate in two sessions.
n the first session, you will have a virtual Zoom session with a researcher from NENS Lab at Gallaudet. You will complete a few tasks while on this Zoom session, and it will include simple math, reasoning, and an American Sign Language (ASL) assessment.
The second session, at Georgetown University, will be using the MRI scanner. This session will be conducted in full accordance with the COVID-19 safety measures that have been recommended by the CDC. You will also receive training on the tasks that you will perform in the scanner. You will be doing several tasks: a simple arithmetic problems task, a hand finger movement task, an ASL or English rhyming task and a number comparison task. The MRI is a safe, non-invasive neuroimaging system that takes pictures or your brain.
This study is done in full compliance with CDC COVID-19 regulations. To qualify, you must:
This study has been approved by the Gallaudet Institutional Review Board.
