Dr. Kota Takayama is a tenured associate professor and the program director in the Master of Social Work Program at Gallaudet University.

Dr. Takayama graduated from the University of Tsukuba with an MS degree in clinical psychology and disability science.  He also graduated from Gallaudet University's MSW program with an MSW degree.  Dr. Takayama holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Social Work Research (Ph.D.) from Japan College of Social Work.  

As a clinical psychologist/clinical social worker, Dr. Takayama has been working with deaf and hard of hearing communities for more than 20 years. Dr. Takayama’s current research area primarily focuses on behavioral health, crisis/disaster interventions, health literacy, and trauma with deaf and hard-of-hearing populations. In the 2011 Tohoku-Earthquake in Japan, Dr. Takayama organized and managed the crisis intervention team as a former director of the Japan Association of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Social Workers.
