Course Overview
This course provides a broad overview of the variety of ASL known as Black ASL. Students will learn the historical and social context of Black ASL and its linguistic features. Perceptions of Black and mainstream will also be discussed. Students are expected to develop a course project at the end of the semester.
Completion of a Deaf Studies course or ASL 4 at Gallaudet in the last 12 months, or screening placement into ASL 5. Contact ASL Connect to schedule an ASL Screening. Permission of department; contact H-Dirksen Bauman with a CC to cce@gallaudet.edu
