The Admissions Office awards merit-based scholarships to incoming deaf and hard of hearing freshmen and new transfer students based on their exemplary academic achievement. Other university-wide scholarships are awarded through the Financial Aid Office by matching students with scholarship criteria established by donors. University scholarship funding is made available through endowments and donations established by individuals and organizations and from the University’s general operating accounts.
Gallaudet’s Merit-Based Scholarships are open to all undergraduate deaf and hard of hearing students whose academic achievements are exemplary. These scholarships range in dollar value and are awarded for up to four years of study for first-time freshmen, and three years of study for transfer students. All newly admitted students are automatically considered for these scholarships by the Admissions Office.
Many Endowed Scholarships are awarded by the Financial Aid Office. Most of these scholarships are restricted to U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents who have an I-151, I-551, or I-551C (Permanent Resident Card). Since many of the endowed scholarships have a criterion related to financial need, it is strongly suggested that you complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and general university scholarship application.
Students may also receive scholarships and grants from external sources. The list below can help you start your search for outside scholarships:
