1972: Gallaudet College establishes the College for Continuing Education (CCE) under the Division of Public Services and hires Dr. Thomas A. Mayes as Dean of CCE. The development of Gallaudet’s outreach programs are designed to serve the nation via community, continuing, professional and family education programs. Dr. Mayes eventually becomes Vice-President of the Division of Public Services and is instrumental in establishing the Gallaudet University Regional Centers (GURC), bringing the expertise of Gallaudet University out to the rest of the country. The original Mid-Atlantic regional center was served out of Gallaudet, and later serving the Southeast region.
1977: The first GURC is founded at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas, serving the Midwest.
1980: A new GURC is founded at Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill, Massachusetts, serving the Northeast.
1983: A new GURC is founded at Ohlone College in Fremont, California, serving the West.
1985: A new GURC is founded at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida, serving the Southeast.
1986: A new GURC is founded at Eastfield College in Mesquite, Texas, serving the Southwest.
1988: A new GURC is founded at Kapi’olani Community College in Honolulu, Hawai’i, serving the Pacific.
1993/94: Southwest Regional Center closed; Southwest states are re-aligned.
1995: The Mid-Atlantic Regional Center is closed.
2009-2010: Request for Collaborations and re-alignment of GURC Centers are implemented to reflect changing demographics, and includes the re-establishment of a Southwest Center, moving of the Midwest Center, and the establishment of a Southeast Center at Gallaudet.
2010: Re-establishment of a GURC at Gallaudet University replaces the former Mid-Atlantic Center, and serves the Southeast.
The GURC serving the Midwest is relocated to John A. Logan in Carterville, IL.
2011: A new GURC is founded at Austin Community College in Austin, TX, serving the Southwest.
2011-2014: Gallaudet University Regional Centers
2014: Gallaudet University Regional Center-Pacific at Kapi’olani Community College is closed. Pacific GURC director continues as a consultant under the Office of Regional and National Outreach, to focus on Hawai’i and Pacific Initiatives.

2017-present: Gallaudet University Regional Centers
