Dr. Gaurav Arora, STAMP colleagues secure...
Dr. Gaurav Arora, associate professor in the School of Science, Technology, Accessibility, Mathematics and Public Health (STAMP), has received an $1.3 million award from the National Science Foundation. This award is for a project titled “Expanding Opportunities for the Success of Deaf and Hard of Hearing STEM majors.”
This NSF Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (S-STEM) grant (Award No. 2130275) will allow Dr. Arora, as principal investigator, and Dr. Caroline Solomon, Dr. Alicia Wooten, and Dr. Mohammad Obiedat, as co-investigators, to support the retention and graduation of high-achieving, low- income deaf and hard of hearing students with demonstrated financial need at Gallaudet University in the STEM fields. Over its six-year duration, the project will fund scholarships for eligible students who are pursuing bachelor’s degrees in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and information technology. This project will continue to increase the number of deaf and hard of hearing students in the field through support activities such as mentoring, tutoring, preparation for graduate programs, presenting at conferences, and supporting an ASL-accessible environment.
Congratulations to Dr. Arora and his team!
