Clinical Manager (Speech Language Pathology)

Margarita "Maggie" Perez, M.S. CCC-SLP is a multilingual (ASL, English, Spanish) certified speech-language pathologist and clinical educator who provides services to pediatric and adult populations in the areas of aural (re)habiltation and/or speech-language development. As a clinical educator, she provides direct instruction/supervision first year graduate SLP clinicians in the master's program at Gallaudet University around culturally competent interventions and individualized patient care. She also provides ongoing mentorship for graduate SLP's as they matriculate through the program and post graduation. Ms. Perez's specializations, specific to pediatric populations, include bilingual/multilingual language development, early intervention (under 3 years of age), developmental disabilities (e.g. autism, Down syndrome, CHARGE), literacy development and working with complex communicators who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) who may be Deaf/HH or hearing. Ms. Perez has also participated as an external evaluator for local school counties in the District of Columbia and Virginia as well as for out-of-state government agencies requring clinical expertise/assessments for Deaf/HH individuals.
In additional to clinical practice and clinical education, Ms. Perez has been the coordinator of AHS' therapeutic summer program Camp SHARP since June 2022. Camp SHARP serves D/HH children under age 6 who require intervention focused on language development in a bilingual (ASL-English) preschool-based/early childhood setting. Camp SHARP also serves as an internship placement for bilingual graduate students in the field of speech-language pathology to gain clinical experiences working with various DHH children and their families. Ms. Perez is also the SLP Clinical Manager, managing a team of clinical educators/speech-langauge pathologists and coordinating speech-language services for AHS and the team. Ms. Perez earned her Master's of Science degree in speech-language pathology from Gallaudet University in 2014. She maintains certification through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Certificate of Clincial Competence (2013). Ms. Perez holds a Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders and Minor's in ASL and Deaf Studies from the University of Orlando (2011). Other trainings completed include: CS101-Introduction to Cued American English (Cue College, March 2024), Educator's Certificate in the DIR-FCD Model (June 2019), Introduction to PROMPT Technique (April 2017)
